If you believe in re-incarnation, heaven or hell you must believe that there is another space where a soul can exist but the body does not. There are many theories influenced by different religions and cultures as to where we go after we die or where is it we are coming from. A practicing medium might claim that there is a place, known to each individual by a different name, where we can get in contact with souls that have departed this Earth.

Young children and pets have an advantage of being able to connect since they are not predisposed to social constructs of what they should believe is true or not. In that way if they notice something ‘odd’ they have no perspective to discount the viability of that thing being real. This makes them more susceptible to the other side, since they don’t question odd things that happen and have the ability to just observe.

Animal relations with spirit can be more complex since some of them, particularly cats are considered to be familiars. A familiar pet is a term used in folklore and witchcraft to refer to a supernatural entity or spirit that takes form through an animal with a duty to serve or protect its companion. That being said pets are open to seeing both bad and good spirits and may have certain behaviours or patterns to alert you of this presence.
