Angel numbers are commonly recognised as repeating digits such as 555 or 111, each of these combinations have a specific vibration to them and it’s just a matter of you noticing them and researching to pick up and understand what they mean. You can also receive angel number messages in other patterns, common ones include your birthday or perhaps another significant date like an anniversary. The third way we might receive an angel number is ‘regular’ digits being repeated say for example 93. In this case it is also a simple task of you doing some research about that specific number vibration and its message. 

Understanding the researched message may be simple but it’s applying it to your circumstances that can prove to be a challenge. 

Three important things to keep in mind when interpreting these messages

1. Be conscious of what you were thinking/talking about at the time you saw the synchronicity. This will help give context to what the message relates to 
2. Identify which guide the message is coming from, although they are termed angel numbers I believe that numbers and patterns is a way that all types of spirit can communicate with us here on Earth. These spirits can range from past over loved ones, a deity/God you pray to or even your twin flame’s higher self. When you are able to identify who the message is coming from that will give you direction on whom to seek guidance or clarity from. 
3. Put your Ego aside. When receiving any message from the divine be it in the form of a coincidence or number synchronicity we naturally tend to rationalise and understand how this communication could be possible. Often times in this rationalisation we dismiss the message and become unable to tap into the answers we seek
